RESEARCH ASSOCIATE FOR DYNAMIC MODELLING OF PERMAFROST ECOSYSTEMS

The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences/Department of Earth System Sciences/Institute of Soil Science invites applications for a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE FOR DYNAMIC MODELLING OF PERMAFROST ECOSYSTEMS - salary level 13 TV-L
The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences as soon as possible.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of three years. The position calls for 39 hours per week. This position is also suitable for part time employment.
Aufgaben und Einsatzfelder
Duties primarily include teaching and research. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
The successful candidate will be integrated into a growing and dynamic working group which has a strong focus on the future carbon balance of northern high latitude permfrost ecosystems. In collaboration with the group, the research associate will advance global soil models by processes specific for permafrost ecosystems, in particular biogeochemical processes and frost action pocesses. Such advanced models will enable a more valid simulation of permafrost carbon dynamics during the past and into the future. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to establish their own research programme in the field of permafrost ecosystem dynamics. Therefore, first ideas about it are expected in the cover letter. This position includes 4 teaching hours per week in the Geoscience BSc or MSc programmes.
Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten
A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. Any experience with prognostic modelling physical or biogeochemical processes, preferebly using soil models is beneficial for this position.
