PostDoc Position (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin / Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter f/m/d)

Fulltime position. Start-date: At the earliest possible date.

Aufgaben und Einsatzfelder

The position is available in the scope the BMBF project "ExtremeLight". The goal of this project is to build a new experimental setup for the P02.2 Extreme Conditions Beamline at the synchrotron radiation source Petra III in Hamburg. The setup will combine X-ray diffraction with diamond anvil cells, Soller slits and a CO2 laser heating system. A major goal is to enable the study of non-crystalline matter and low-Z materials under extreme conditions. The project will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. H.-P. Liermann and Dr. K. Glazyrin (both at Petra III, DESY).

Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten

We seek a highly motivated individual with keen interest in experimental work. Applicants should hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Earth sciences, mineralogy, chemistry, physics, material sciences or a related field as well as a PhD within the field of extreme conditions research or crystallography.

  • Experience in high-pressure experimentation, and X-ray diffraction are mandatory.
  • Experience in operating and building laser heating systems as well as analysing total scattering (PDF) data are desirable but not required.
  • Experience in using scripting languages such as Python or Matlab for the purpose of data analysis and experiment control is desired but also not required.
  • Good proficiency in English (written and spoken) and availability to travel are required.


The fixed-term position is available for 3 years.

The salary will be determined in accordance with E13.
