The Institute for Mineralogy in the Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Münster (WWU), Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Doctoral Research Associate in Experimental Geochemistry

(salary level TV-L E 13, 75%)

starting on 1 August 2022. We are offering the fixed-term part-time position (75% FTE) for 3 years.

Aufgaben und Einsatzfelder

Your tasks:

  • This position is tied to working towards a doctorate.
  • This fully funded PhD project will investigate the transport of metals and the composition of fluids associated with Sn-W mineralization at the magmatic-hydrothermal transition using diamond anvil cells in conjunction with Raman and synchrotron X-ray spectroscopies.
  • The project is funded by the DFG priority program DOME ‘Dynamics of metal enrichment’ (SPP 2238) and will be conducted in close collaboration with Dr. Marion Louvel (Institut des Sciences de la Terre ISTO Orleans, France).

Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten

Our expectations:

  • Applicants should hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Earth sciences, physics, chemistry or a related field at the time of the appointment.
  • The candidate should have a strong background in ore geochemistry, physico-chemistry and thermodynamics.
  • Experience in high pressure and/or X-ray absorption/fluorescence techniques and Raman spectroscopy is preferred.
  • Excellent English skills (written and spoken), computational skills and availability for travel are required. German language skills would be advantageous, but are not a requirement.
  • We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in experimental work and the ability to work independently.
